02/07/23 Day Walk: From Peebles via Cross Borders Drove Road to Paddock Slack.

JI organised this walk, with BR, CS, AS & DM participating. Starting from Peebles, NT 25155 40218, having parked a car at the far end, the entrance to Paddock Law, NT 31318 28592, it followed part of the Cross Borders Drove Road via Kirkhope Law, NT 27979 35221, leaving it to visit Birkscairn Hill, NT 27452 33231, avoiding the ferocious wind on Dun Rig, NT 25346 31583 by lunching on it’s ESE slope by the path, then traversing Whiteknowe Head, NT 26989 29706, up onto the southern shoulder of Deuchar Law, NT 28434 29333, and finally SE down to the road and the parked car. A very clear, windy, often wet and cold day, about 4 deg’C in the chill, was forecast…and the met office was right - but it didn’t spoil the fun.

Further up the hill DM & BR stopped for some water but as usual the pieces were brought out!

…getting lost in The Borders Hills is not an option for the FVMC.

There are lots of forests in the hills and much damage over the years due to high winds; this was taken at the forest edge between Whiteknowe Head and Deuchar Law…looks like a forest giant’s washing on a line. The walk ended after 6:30hrs, a fine day oot.
