Proper winter conditions arrived for FVMC members at the Glenfinnan January Weekend Meet, aided by a comfortable and warm Glenfinnan bunkhouse. On Saturday various folk went out in different directions but tended to stay low as the weather was forecast to be wet, however Sunday was a different matter with better conditions all around.

On Saturday, a couple of groups went on the long walk in from Fassfern, NN 02076 78935, to the 'not so secret' bothy of Glensulaig, NN 02963 83368. Here are MMcE & CS, with their target hill, the Fiona Meall Onfhaidh, NN 01047 84097, behind them. The other group, BR, ARod, GM, MM & RB headed off to the Corbett Meall a Phubuill, NN 02947 85442.

But first a welcome visit to Glensulaig bothy. It was warmer and drier inside.

…Harry The Dog was keen for a warm fire – but left in disgust when he found someone had let it out!

View from the track down to bothy.

…a fierce blast of icy snow at the summit of Meall Onfhaidh – no doubt the same for the boys on Meall a Phubuill.

Sunday’s weather was brighter and more stable, tempting MMcE, CS & GM to do the Corbett, Sgurr an Utha, NM 88502 83981, as pictured from the lower slopes. They headed up the hill via a convenient track going up Druim na Beinn choilla, up onto complicated, sometimes craggy, snowy slopes getting to the lower summit of Fraoch Bheinn, NM 89464 83745, then along the ridge to the summit of Sgurr an Utha.

Infinity pool…spot the Isle of Eigg in the distance.

GM leading up through the crags.

CS and GM at the summit…and of course, Harry.

View west with Loch Beoraid centre left, NM 83385 85061.

…there’s that infinity pool again – the setting sun making it glow.

Also on Sunday, BR, RB, ARod & MM, started from the car park at NM 93016 79846, heading NE through the forest onto the ridge leading to the Corbett Braigh nan Uamhachan, NM 97527 86707. The pic shows a fine view of Streap, NM 94663 86396, as seen looking to the north before heading onto the ridge in the right.

Now on the ridge, looking NNE to the Braigh nan Uamhachan summit. The group returned along the ridge to NM 96992 84986 then descended west down to into glen, thereafter SW back to the head of the track.
