16-17/02/24 Weekend Meet: Inbhirfhaolain, Glen Etive

An old favourite of the FVMC, the Inbhirfhaolain Hut, located in Glen Etive, NN 15854 50741, run by the Grampian Club, https://www.grampianclub.org.uk/property/the-club-hut/ an ideal location for a variety of hills and passes.

The view of the hut taken from the south…along with its ‘vertical drop composting toilet’ attached to the end of the building painted maroon.

On Friday 16th Friday a good forecast drew MMcE & GB to Beinn Maol Chaluim, NN 13498 52585. A steep start from the road, they headed up the SE ridge, on pathless complicated ground.

A fleeting glimpse of a deer.

Net like lichen.

Now for the snowline.

There should be more snow than this for the time of year!

MMcE & GB reach the twin cairns at the summit.

Along the ridge on the way back.

Later the weather improved and they got a glimpse of Loch Etive.

Back at the hut they fetch water from the nearby Allt Fhaolain burn.

It is a comfortable hut…GB dries himself off with the other gear above him.

ARod, Harry & CS with the medicinal drink on the table.

Saturday 17th, CS, GB & MMcE decided to climb Beinn Trilleachan. NN 08640 43899, starting from the car park at the shore of Loch Etive, they climbed soggy ground beside the Glen Etive forest, heading up and round onto the ridge.

After an initial steep climb the angle eased as they walked over the smaller top at 767m, NN 09586 44705.

At the 767m top and their first glimpse of Loch Etive from the ridge. A decision had to be made about the route down the crags.

At the coll.

View back at crag and top 767m.

At the summit cairn looking SW along Loch Etive.

Ben Starav, NN 12575 42746, free of cloud, where ARod and SP were walking.

The view NW to the 2 munros of Beinn a Bheithir, NN 04019 55583. They returned by the same route.

On Sunday 18th, MMcE, SP, CS & Harry the Dog, decided on a half day walk up the stalkers path to the bealach, NN 16873 53382, on the east side of Stob Coire Sgreamhach, starting from the Glen Etive side, NN 16965 51373.

Will the mist lift?

Another Waterfall.

Celebration at the coll.

The Crags of Stob Coire Sgreamhach on the left with the ridge of Beinn Fhada on the right.

Looking NE down to Glencoe from the coll.

And the View back down into Glen Etive, effectively bringing and end to a very enjoyable weekend in Glen Etive.
