Attendees: BR, MMcE, CS, AR, GB

We headed west with a view to climbing the Corbett, Beinn Bheula. We planned to complete a circuit of the hill to bring variety to the day.

It was a mixed day weather wise but we did not need the waterproofs and got some views of the surrounding peaks and lochs. The route started near the chalets at Lettermay, where we had managed to find parking spaces.

While most people had climbed this hill before, the route on the Cowal Way had changed somewhat following on from the removal of fallen trees caused by storms in recent years. It was not long until we struck off up the hill towards the waterfall.

There were a few options for crossing the stream to gain the ridge of Beinn Bheula, although GB’s promise of a bridge did not materialise!

The group came together again and we gained ground quickly along the fence line.

It did not take us too long to reach the summit, where there was shelter from the cairn and a trig point.

The way down proved interesting across rough terrain. We kept a look out for the remains of a fighter plane that crashed into the mountain in 1940 but did not spot anything. Apparently, a lot of it is now buried by landslides.  As we came into the forest, there was not a clear route and we found our way over and under fallen trees.

It was an enjoyable day in good company.
