We had great hill walking weather for our climb of Ben Donich, a Corbett close to the Rest and Be Thankful pass in the Arrochar Alps. MMc, VD, HP, SP, and CS took part in what turned out to be a brilliant day on the hill.

The route provided a fantastic variety of terrain that kept us engaged from start to finish. We began with steady, grassy paths that allowed us to settle into a good pace.  We gained height quickly with stunning views opening up. There was much spirited debate about a certain hill – is that is that really the Cobbler, or just a very convincing imposter? Fortunately, we were able to reach a consensus after HP settled the matter by consulting the map, confirming we were indeed looking at the Cobbler, with Beinn Ime behind.

As we gained elevation, the path grew steeper and more interesting, eventually leading us into some fun, light scrambling sections near the summit ridge. Navigating the rocky outcrops added an extra sense of adventure to the climb.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the scenery. Reaching the higher ground offered us those classic, expansive views that make every bit of the climb worth it. We could see over to the Cowal Peninsula and north to Beinn Lui and beyond.

It was the kind of day that reminds you why we love getting outdoors—great company, a bit of friendly debate, and scenery that stays with you long after the walk is over. Ben Donich certainly didn’t disappoint!
