Eight club members — ARob, CS, AS, HP, BR, VD, MMcE and organiser PF — set off from Inveruglas Visitor Centre to climb Ben Vane. Although the walk began in a light drizzle, the forecast suggested conditions would improve from around 10am. Before long, the group was rewarded with excellent views of the mountain.
As expected, the route was short in distance but very steep. With a couple of well-timed breaks along the way, all eight members made it to the summit. Conditions at the top were very windy, so the group retreated to shelter behind some rocks for lunch. From there, they enjoyed fine views of the surrounding hills, including Ben Lomond and the Arrochar Alps.
The group returned to the Visitor Centre while continuing to enjoy the views. Unfortunately, they arrived too late to stop for coffee and cake at the garden centre near Balloch on the way back. Even so, it was a fine day out and enjoyed by all.
