The main target for the Day Walk on 02/02/25 was to the Corbett Meall an t-Seallaidh, NN 54209 23402, near Balquhidder. It had been hoped that similar conditions would prevail allowing the attendees a repeat of the winter walk gifted to IH & BR in January (see General January 2025 Activity: All Types Of Hills...And Weather!). However the weather forecast did not look nearly so good, but that didn’t prevent SP & TF from bagging the Corbett!

They left the car park at Village Hall shortly after 9am, in light drizzle, up through the woods from the kirk where Rob Roy is buried, going as far as Creag an Tuirc before crossing the fence and heading north up the steep hill. The pic shows their general out and return route from the car park.

Poor visibility throughout, especially above ~500 m. Pic taken looking SW from the slopes above their exit from the forest at Creag an Tuirc, just left of centre.

SP taking no chances with his new map case!

The snow got quite deep above 600m and was about knee deep in places (although very soft and wet). From about 750m the wind picked up, bringing with it stronger drizzle and the need for full waterproofs and extra layers. They made it to the top just before noon, and didn't linger. Pic shows TF & SP at the top with the trig point just behind.

They returned via the same route, following visible footprints in the snow, donning goggles for the way down (into the southerly wind). Pic shows a slightly clearer view on the way back featuring Loch Voil and their re-entry point in the forest, centre left. The walk took a lot longer than they had expected, due to the deep snow on top. Back to the car at 2pm…a fine day out!
