This was the first time that the FVMC had stayed at the Agnes Spencer Memorial Hut, in Glenridding run by Cleveland MC Clevelandmc.com Compact and bijou!

Traditional Patterdale style.

Comfortable living room.

Small kitchen.

Alpine sleeping.

Saturday 13/08 saw an absolute scorcher of a day in the Lake District, reaching 28 degC/83 degrees Fahrenheit. EA, PF & AS went up Helvellyn which lived up to its reputation as the most popular hill in England! Many, many folks in shorts and trainers (and with the occasional Louis Vuitton handbag)! They went via Striding Edge, to the summit, then Lower Man, later retracing down Swirral Edge, then by Red Tarn and Birkhouse Moor. A suitably timed lifesaver of a lager shandy in The Travellers Rest, Glenridding, fuelled them for the last lap back to the hut. Seven hours and 15 minutes. Photo is Looking west up Grizedale to Nethermost Pike.

EA & PF on the ascent, camera looking back east to Patterdale.

East face of Hellvellyn, and their descent route Swirral Edge, top right, to the east of Red Tarn.

Ullswater from Birkhouse Moor.
