The last Day Walk of the year was spent just south of Melrose and featured a leisurely roam of the Eildon Hills, a place once roamed by the Romans.

Start of the roam, heading to the first of the three bumps comprising the Eildon Hills. The most northerly hill, Eildon Hill North, pictured top left, was apparently used by the Romans as a Signal Station.

…depending on the kindness of passing strangers we manage to get a group photo at the Signal Station.

The view of Melrose looking NW from the top.

The next target is the smallest of the bumps, Eildon Hill West, pictured centre left.

Approaching the top of Eildon Hill West. The Roman Signal Station lies to the NE, centre right, with Eildon Mid Hill centre left.

It doesn’t take long to ascend Eildon Mid Hill.

With the attraction of a café seat and some Melrose fare a swift descent was made towards town, attenuated by the VERY muddy lower section of the path. A short but sociable end to the FVMC Day Walks of 2024.
