A great weekend at Muir of Inverey, NO 07683 89655, Braemar, with 15 x folk attending the meet including one new member.

The Weekend meet was gifted with wonderful weather and great to see everyone again. On Saturday 16/07, two members planned to climb Beinn Bhrotain, NN 95412 92290. A cycle from the hut to White Bridge, then up the track on the west side of the river Dee. They ascended over sub top Carn Cloich-mhuilinn 942m, then up to a cloudless summit 1157m. Stunning views all round taking in Ben Macdui, Lochnagar to Beinn a ghlo in the south. They descended south via Coire an t-Sneachda (yes there is one on this hill too!), re-joining the bikes a little later. Above is the view of Beinn Bhrotain from track near White Bridge.

On Saturday too, BR, IH, JG & DY cycled from the estate carpark near Invercauld Bridge, NO 18851 91259, NW to a point on the track 0.25km east of the ruined cottage on the Allt an t-Slugain. Having left the bikes they started their long trail NW then north along the footpath to The Sneck, NJ 11739 01016, the bealach between Beinn a Bhuird and Ben Avon. At this point they split company; JG and DY heading to climb Squareface, on the NE buttress of Cnap a Chleirich whilst BR & IH headed NE to scramble up Leabaidh an Daimh Bhuidhe, NJ 13191 01836. Above IH smokes some imaginary pipe whilst BR realises the length of route ahead…just some of it in the background!

JG also considers the Long Walk In. At this point in particular since three climbers on bikes zoomed past them and disappeared into the distance…and they all think ‘Did we really need to leave the bikes?!’

Having left DY & JG at The Sneck, BR & IH walked NE towards the furthest point and scramble of the day, Leabaidh an Daimh Bhuidhe, NJ 13191 01836.

Finally on the top and in the background, at the top right, is the Corrie where DY & JG were climbing Squareface.

On Sunday, AS, EA, GH & AH climbed the Graham Creag Bhalg, NO 09133 91262, behind Mar lodge. Very warm and humid to start, but once on the summit ridge there was a refreshing breeze. A lovely wander in good company and with grandstand views.

Also on Sunday, BR, IH & ARob cycled from the cottage to about 1km NW of White Bridge, with the intent of climbing the Corbett Sgor Mor, NO 00711 91410. The summit was reached in quick time and broad views awaited. From the left, looking west to Beinn Bhrotain, then The Devils Point with Cairn Toul in the cloud behind, then the vee shaped Lairig Grhu, followed by Carn a Mhaim, with Ben Macdui in the cloud behind, then Derry Cairngorm to the right.
