The club had an excellent 3 days on Skye staying at Torrin Bunkhouse, NG 57294 21081, run by High Life Highland, info@highlifehighland.com.

The Torrin Bunkouse.

On the Saturday, 20/05/23, low-level cloud prompted many to take some suitably low-level walks.

First up SP, TF & MMcE, had to abort an attempt to climb Blaven due to poor visibility, but this was compensated for by the visual delights at ground level. Pic shows Butterwort.

Sempervivum.

Milkwort & Lousewort.

Also on Saturday 20/05/23, DY & some friends went on a coastal walk from Torrin to Boreraig, NG 61943 16463 and Suisnish, NG 59097 16165. Pic shows The old Cill Chriosd church.

Approaching Boreraig.

Their walk continues.

Sunday, 21/05/23, saw an improvement in the weather. Starting from Loch Ainort, MMcE, IH, EA, CS & Harry the Dog topped out on Garbh Bheinn, NG 53124 23283, having climbed it’s NW ridge with a tricky bit of scrambling prior to the summit. They decided not to proceed to Belig, NG 54410 24096, as some of the east ridge may have been very tricky with a dog. Pic shows their view looking NE to Loch Ainort from the base on Garbh Bheinn’s NW ridge. It was a popular mountain during that Weekend Meet as TF, SP and MM also ascended Garbh Bheinn but having climbed Belig.

From further up Garbh Bheinn’s NW ridge we can see it losing the shroud of mist.

Looking NNW to The Red Cuillin, NG 52035 28547, with Loch Ainort on the right.

Looking west towards The Black Cuillin, NG 44524 23018.

Before the final ascent of Garbh Bheinn they get a view of Loch Slapin to the SE, NG 57532 19038.

This is what they have come for, Garbh Bheinn with Blaven, NG 52978 21769, poking up at the back.

An interesting steep ascent of Garbh Bheinn’s western face.

Not far now.

IH near the top with Clach Glas, NG 53435 22111, and Blaven in the background.

This time a completely clear view to the west, featuring The Black Cuillin.

Harry reminds IH & CS that it’s time for lunch.

Back at the Torrin Bunkhouse folk exchange stories.

Also that Sunday 21/05/23, DY & AS Set off to do the classic traverse of Clach Glas, NG 53435 22111 and Blaven, NG 52984 21750, which DY last did over 40 years ago. Pic shows AS at the start of the path.

Further up with dramatic views.

Approaching the start of the climb.

Rocky Clach Glas and Blaven ahead…however AS considered that his climbing skills that day were a bit too rusty for the route ahead and wisely declined – however the opportunity arose for them to go off to the east and do Sgurr nan Each, NG 53728 22759.
