24-25/02/23 Weekend Meet: The Cabin, Balgowan; Corrieyairack Hill, Geal Charn, Gairbeinn, and others

For the first time the FVMC club stayed at The Cabin, Balgowan, NN 63895 94402, one of the huts owned by Edinburgh JMCS, Edinburgh JMCS | Edinburgh based climbing and mountaineering club. Located on the southern side of the Monadhliath mountains it promised some fine options.

Earlier that day on Friday 24/02/23, ARob made a quick solo ascent of The Sow of Athol. NN 62474 74123, from Dalnaspidal, NN 64486 73320.

On Saturday 25/02/23, a group of us walked from Melgarve, NN 46578 96047, heading west along the track under the pylons, leaving the track at the height of the pass, NN 42324 98510, then climbing Corrieyairack Hill, Geal Charn, NN 44436 98894, ending at Gairbeinn, NN 46015 98571. Picture shows ARob, BR, Harry the Dog, CS & AS at the cairn on Corrieyairack Hill.

Also on Saturday SP ascended Geal Chàrn, NN 56147 98820, in the Monadhliath from Garva Bridge, NN 52167 94814. Pic shows the view about two thirds up the ascent.

Sunday 26/02/23 was a beautiful day. BR & IH went to do the highest point on The Fara ridge, NN 59821 84419, to the west of Dalwhinnie. Pic shows the view form near the top looking ENE towards The Cairngorms.
