On the weekend of 21/02/20 we all looked forward to our meet at the Carg Dearg Climbing Club Hut at Braedownie, Glen Clova. Eleven of us, including two members of the FVMC Bavarian Section, were hoping for some good conditions, but we were partially resigned to the likely reality of stormy weather, mixed visibility and the challenge of keeping upright. And it didn't disappoint! Saturday saw none of our groups reach their objectives, Mayar, Driesh and Broad Cairn but stiff walks in deep snow were part of the compromise, including, for some, a long walk to the Clova Hotel after we got back to the hut at a time too early to justify our dinner. Altogether Sunday was a different day. Snow had frozen and the sky was blue. The wind was still very high...so much so that BR & MM decided that use of their skis would result in a sideways and backwards motion, but rarely forward - so they were left in the car. A group of us, GB, MM, BR, CS, IMcM set off up path from Clova hotel, past Loch Brandy up to Green Hill, some of whom headed onto the Corbett, The Goet. In another part of the glen AS & GH found a quiet hill, got on their mountain bikes and had loads of fun on the snow, courtesy of fat tyres. Meanwhile MMcL enjoyed the lower reaches of Glen Clova. A great weekend!

Sunday was brighter and much windier! Here with CS, GB & MM on Green Hill, on oor way to The Goet, 1.5km to the east of Loch Wharral. Looking WSW towards Mayar and Driesh - photo BR.
