General May 2023 Activity: Amulree, Rum, Portafortuna and Glen Isla.

Other activity of the FVMC for May 2023 covered a wide area, including a Scottish island, Croatia and the hills of Perthshire!

First up, on 12/05/23 BR & IH visited the Fiona Meall Dearg, NN 88657 41533, situated to 4-5km NW of Amulree, NN 90039 36729…Loch Fender, NN 87912 41306, and Meall Dearg illustrated here.

On 16/05/23 PB and friend RMcK set off to do the two Corbetts in Rum; Askival, NM 39308 95226 and Ainshval, NM 37823 94352, via Hallival, NM 39516 9625. Pic shows the ascent of Hallival from the NW ridge.

PB is still a happy chappy despite wind and mist. On the descent to Bealach an Oir, NM 38551 95297, RMcK twisted his knee and PB suffered a bruised rear end…prompting the decision to miss out on second Corbett and contour round northwards to Bealach Bairc-mheall, NM 38662 97112, and make the return journey to their digs.

On 21/05/23, CP and climbing partner spent some time in the climbing were in the Portafortuna rock climbing area, 8.5km NW of Baska, Croatia…encountering some local lads on the way!

Last up, on 26/05/23 BR & PF went on jaunt up Glen Isla to Monamenach, NO 17610 70706, and Duchray Hill, NO 16146 67261. Pic shows PF at the early stage of the Glen Beanie track with Duchray Hill in the NW.

Having parked the car at the entrance to Glen Beanie, NO 18727 66173, they walked up the track and headed NNE onto the NW slopes of Creagan Caise, NO 18014 68634, to access the SE slope of Monamenach. Pic shows the view to the SW featuring Duchray Hill.
