05-07/08/11 Weekend Meet: Mar Lodge, Braemar

Monster Saturday - Mar Lodge 5-7 August 2011 (after The Gasman Cometh, Flanders & Swan 1964)

Twas on a Friday evening and many came to Mar

They bagged their rooms and had a beer and looked at maps and all

The midgies were out in force and you couldn't see too far

Nevertheless, big plans were made, and all had (really quite a lot of) alcohol

Twas early Sat'day morning (about 3 am)

The fire alarm went off so loud, and all lept out of bed

No smoke, no fire, all was OK but you could see the men

Dressed up in just their scuddies, made eyes pop oot yer heid

Twas later St'day morning and breakfast was being had

Some were sharp and some were asleep and some not seen at all

The climbers were checkin routes, and walkers getting clad

Eventually we all set off, and all the midgies were Glad

So Nick & Malc and Marcus got on their bikes and went

Up t bloody Slugain Glen, Ben a Bhuird to bag (9 hours)

And soon caught up with Charlie, and Drew as they went

On a mystery mission, to scout climbs in the clag (10 hours)

Meanwhile Mike and Gordon drove up towards the Lecht

To scout out Cock Bridge environs, and then to stretch their legs

And Ann and Libby also left, with lots of country left

They explored the back country trails and avoided many clegs

Twas on a Saturday afternoon, and all came back to stay

Making tea and eating scoff, all without delay

For trips were long and midgies strong and aches and pains in pins

We wondered at t' Yules' dinner - just what are RAMEKINS????

Twas on a Sat'day evening and the gang was settled in

Club politics and stories flew, you couldn't get a word in

We want just one-day meets, let's execute non-attenders

Charlie needs MTB lessons, and Nick needs elbow fenders

So we thank the good ol' FVMC for all we outdoor types get

Just make sure all the meets take place where we don't't risk getting WET

And just in case you look askance at the high prices we have to pay

We all get our extra fiver back, if want it back, after such a wonderful and enjoyable stay.
