10-12/01/14 Weekend Meet: Raeburn Hut, Laggan

On Saturday Nick and Allan walked up Geal Charn (Monadh Liath) from Spey Dam while Malcolm and Brian met up with Gordon Blake and skied to A'Bhuidheanach Bheag via the path to the quarry from the A9.

With his skins out of action Gordon spent a lot of time carrying his skis up hill. No problems on the downhill. Near white-out conditions on the tops and very windy for all but they reached the cairns and for this windy winter it was not a bad day.

On Sunday Malcolm and Allan walked up Geal Charn (Drumochter) from Balsporran Cottages. Straight up and back down again in a very cold, strong wind with poor visibility from about 700m. Lunch back at the car. The only sheltered spot to be found!

Nick and Brian headed to the Cairngorm Ski Centre for some cross country skiing.

Unfortunately Nick had to give up due to a knee problem. Brian continued on until the poor visibility and the strong wind forced him to return to his car.

Good weekend despite the conditions.
