Summer in Skye therefore it must rain!
Despite a glorious Friday evening with the Cullin glowing in the late sunlight, we awoke to wind and rain on the Saturday morning. Despite this ominous setback plans were hatched for an ascent of the ''easiest'' Cullin summit, Bruach na Frithe. Parties set off from both the Sligachan and Fairy Pools car parks meeting near the top of Bealach a Mhaim when it was decided retreat was the only option in the prevailing conditions. The Sligachan Inn beckoned but only for soup, scones and coffee. Far too early for anything stronger! Two members decided to brave the elements however and walked back to the hut in some quite nasty wind and rain. We later discovered that the hut custodian had been blown over three times by the wind in Fionn Coire prompting a judicious retreat!
Sunday was much the same - if a tad less windy. One member explored the wee hills west of Glen Brittle and three members wandered out to Rubha an Dunain to investigate the various sites of archaeological interest. Three others went to Orbost and walked out to court McLeod's Maidens.
Monday was a bit better (naturally since it was the last day of the meet) and two members climbed Bruach na Frithe from the Fairy Pools car park. The weather brightened up nicely allowing for a leisurely ascent over the very rough, loose scrambly north-west ridge. They also scrambled out to Sgurr a Fionn Coire where there were brief views to Am Basteir and down into Lota Coire.
It seems as if everyone else just drove home as there are no reports of anything else being done. Please correct me if I am wrong in saying this!
